The posterior maxilla is a major challenge during rehabilitation with implants due to highly atrophied ridges and sinus pneumatization. This is a challenge not only for implant placement but also for loading. The poor bone quality characteristic of this region, coupled with limited vertical bone height related to damage caused by periodontitis and sinus pneumatization, creates difficulties in providing a significant number of implants of sufficient length to predictably support an implant prosthesis. Low bone density at implantation sites reduces implant success due to impairment of primary stability.
During the presentation Dr Shreshta will discuss the Pterygoid implants, which gives immediate loading options without the need for advanced sinus surgeries, minimum drilling protocol and a great primary stability and cortical anchorage. From the prosthetic view pterygoid implants increase AP spread of the implants and avoid cantilever, thereby providing better restorative prognosis.
