One of the greatest challenges in modern implantology is the maintenance or reconstruction of the buccal volume, which consists of a set of interconnected structures: the buccal plate (vestibular bone), soft tissues (gingival thickness, keratinized gingiva, papillae), and bone peaks. These structures play a crucial role in implant-prosthetic rehabilitations, ensuring both optimal aesthetic and functional results and long-term protection of the implant from bone resorption.
However, in post-extraction cases or healed alveolar sites, a physiological yet significant volume loss almost always occurs, affecting both hard and soft tissues.
But what actually causes this loss after a tooth extraction?
The answer lies in the bundle bone, a very thin layer of vestibular bone (also known as ligament bone) that is intimately connected to the periodontal ligament of the extracted tooth. When the tooth is lost, the periodontal ligament disappears, triggering a chain reaction that leads to the resorption of the buccal bone plate and the contraction of the surrounding soft tissues.
The periodontal ligament is therefore the key factor in the maintenance or loss of peri-alveolar volumes.
During this international congress, we will discuss techniques for preserving the periodontal ligament in post-extraction implants, with the contribution of renowned Italian and international experts.
This will be a valuable opportunity to explore techniques related to Self in situ, such as Socket-Shield, RST, Pontic Shield, Glocker, and Coronectomy.
