Functional and Aesthetic Crown Lengthening Workshop
In addition to surgical management of soft tissue, crown lengthening procedures may involve osseous resective therapy. These hard and soft tissue alterations may be provided in order to obtain a ferrule height, establish a biologic width or for improved aesthetics. The morning portion of this program will be a lecture reviewing the rationale for crown lengthening therapy and a discussion on techniques for incisions, osseous therapy and suturing. Contraindications to crown lengthening will also be discussed.
In the afternoon section of the program, the workshop will utilize a posterior typodont to provide a practical exercise in exposing a maxillary premolar with a subgingival fracture. The participant will make incisions to gain access to the underlying bone. The participant will recontour the bone for predictable tooth exposure and eliminate moderate osseous deformities present on the typodont. In addition, a second typodont demonstrating altered passive eruption will be utilized for an aesthetic crown lengthening in the anterior sextant. The participant will make incisions recontouring the excess gingival tissue, resect bone, and suture the flaps for exposure of the anatomic crown for an aesthetic outcome.
