BDS, FDS RCS, FFD RCSI, MClin Dent, MRD RCS (Endo), PhD Professor Hal Duncan graduated in dentistry from the University of Glasgow and completed 4-year endodontic specialty training at Guy’s Hospital, King’s College London. He holds a PhD from the University of Birmingham on epigenetic regulation in dentine-pulp repair. For a decade, he worked part-time in referral endodontic practice. For 16 years, he has led endodontic education, clinical service, and research at Dublin Dental University Hospital (DDUH). He has published over 160 peer-reviewed papers, 20 book chapters, and edited 3 textbooks. He was lead author of the ESE position statement on deep caries and exposed pulp and chairs the ESE S3-level Guidelines for Endodontic Treatment. Editor-in-Chief of the International Endodontic Journal, he has completed fellowships at NYU/Rutgers on epigenetics and regeneration. He is Director of Research at DDUH, President of the ESE, and former President of the IADR Pulp Biology and Regeneration Group.
