After completing this lecture the participant should be able to have a greater understanding of short dental implants, their uses, application, indications and contraindications.

Dental Implantology is one of the most dynamic topics in the clinical dentistry today. Implants are broadly used for oral rehabilitation in patients who are partially or completely edentulous. The impetus is on simplifying the treatment to make it more acceptable to both the patient and clinician.
Patients with particularly limited vertical bone height, conventional implant placement becomes extensive as augmentation procedures are required which results into greater morbidity of the site, longer overall rehabilitation time and higher costs.
Short dental implant placement appears to be one of the viable, simple and predictable alternative techniques to avoid advanced surgical procedures in cases with anatomical barriers and lack of bone availability.
With the improvements in the micro and macro geometry of implants, which increase the bone implant contact and use of adapted surgical prosthetic protocols, short dental implants have evolved into a promising and reliable treatment option with similar survival rates as that of regular implants and satisfactorily high prognosis and patient needs.

DR. HEMANG ZALA

Dr. Hemang Zala, BDS, MDS, has over 20 years’ experience in clinical Dentistry, interspersed with teaching, lecturing, writing and research.
He did his graduation from Government Dental College, Jamnagar and Masters in Oral Pathology from Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
He served as lecturer from year 2000-2002, and currently runs his private Dental Hospital clinic in Ahmedabad, Gujarat since 2003.
Dental Implant is his passion, and started the placement and restoration of dental implants very early in his practice.
With increase in challenge and demand of dental implants in deficient bone lead him for specialized training of SHORT IMPLANTS from Boston USA in association with Harvard School of Dental Medicine (2006).
Since then, Dr. Hemang Zala is best known for his tremendous work for more than 14 years on short implants in India.
His trademark is to thoroughly educate and comfort his patients and students. Dr. Zala has maintained a client base of thousands, upholding a reputation as professional empathetic and personable practitioner.
He has conducted many hands on training sessions, live surgery in field of implant dentistry and served as a speaker at numerous national conferences including keynote speaker in ISOI Banglore (2016).
He is also clinical advisor and KOL for implant companies.
